The training is designed to build confidence, develop road safety awareness and encourage pupils to become safe, independent cyclists.
In the weeks leading up to the trip, pupils attended weekly cycling sessions in the playground. They began by developing their confidence and control on their bikes before progressing to more advanced skills, including signalling, negotiating give-way junctions and understanding the rules of the road. Each important lesson helps pupils to cycle safely and responsibly.
Pupils set off early to catch the ferry to Millport on the Isle of Great Cumbrae. Accompanied by school staff and parent helpers, they completed the island’s 10-mile cycle route, taking time to enjoy lunch and appreciate the beautiful surroundings along the way.
Despite experiencing some very mixed Scottish summer weather, the pupils remained enthusiastic throughout the day. Their hard work and dedication during training paid off as they completed the cycle ride with smiles on their faces.
The cycle training programme helps pupils develop independence, resilience and a lifelong enjoyment of outdoor activity. We are incredibly proud of their efforts!
