As our Chairman and his guests arrived, Director of Performing Arts, Tim Rhodes, on trumpet and Ms Katie Wylie on piano played a beautiful accompaniment. John MacLeod, Chairman to the Board of Governors, welcomed our audience and reflected on the school year, the hard work of our pupils and the drive and commitment of our staff.
Mr Mark Ronan gave his first speech as Rector and reflected “in the words of Ted Lasso — Be curious not judgmental and ask questions!”. Good advice I’m sure the pupils will agree.
Guest of Honour Alastair Kellock, Managing Director of Glasgow Warriors gave an inspiring speech on his career and shared his five key life skills before presenting the prizes for:
Primary Dux, The McKie Cup, was awarded to Geli R (P7), and Senior Girls’ Dux medal, The Mary McMillan Kerr Prize and Gold Medal, was awarded to Naomi H., while Senior Boys’ Dux medal, The Rector’s Prize and 1829 Silver Medal, was awarded to Ijay S., with Proxime Accessit to the Girls’ Dux , The Helen McMillan Prize, jointly awarded to Aminah M. and Nikitha V. The Proxime Accessit to the Boys’ Dux, The Fairweather Prize was awarded to Luc H.
As with Hutchie tradition, Arianna K. gave the last speech of the ceremony and consequently her final speech as Head Girl, where she reflected on her own time at school, before giving thanks on behalf of all pupils. As his final duty as Head Boy, Robbie N. lead “Three Cheers for the School” to mark the end of the ceremony.
It was a wonderful occasion that celebrated our pupils and marked the end of another successful school year. Congratulations to all award winners.
