After an early start and flights via Amsterdam, the group arrived in the Swedish capital and began their visit at the Vasa Museum, home to the remarkably preserved 17th-century warship Vasa. Later that day, they gave their first performance at Västerås Cathedral in the province of Västmanland, singing to a large and appreciative audience.
The choir performed three pieces by Philip Stopford, who kindly sent a video message wishing them well for the tour. He said:
“I am wishing all pupils the best on their wonderful trip… I wish I could be there with you but I am sure I will see you in Scotland when you get back.”
The following day included time to explore Stockholm before a second concert at Sollentuna Church.
Their final performances took place at Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser, a renowned school where every pupil sings. Performing for two year groups, our choir also enjoyed meeting and connecting with their Swedish peers – a fitting finale to the tour.
Before returning home, pupils rounded off their visit with stops at the ABBA Museum and the Nobel Prize Museum, where they enjoyed the interactive displays and celebrated Sweden’s cultural achievements.
An unforgettable experience for both pupils and staff.
