S1 is a traditional entry point for new pupils to Hutchesons’ and offers a fresh and exciting experience.

It is a unique time, when the uninhibited enthusiasm of childhood can be channeled into the achievements of tomorrow.

Academic footing is strengthened.
All S1 pupils take mathematics and English, Latin, physics, chemistry and biology.  As well as the three sciences RE, geography, history, art, drama, ICT, music, PE and games are also compulsory. One modern language is chosen from French, German or Spanish.
Such a range of subjects at S1 is rare, but this breadth of exposure is a crucial cornerstone for future development.
Each week starts with a S1 pastoral assembly and there are a wealth of co-curricular opportunities and trips available. S1 are encouraged to host their own charity events and eco-drives.
Activities and events for new pupils and parents promote friendships and ease the transition from Primary. Expert guidance is on hand from staff, and S6 ‘Buddies’ provide a helping hand and support to S1 pupils.
