RSPB Eco Trip

The Primary Eco-Committee recently enjoyed a trip to the RSPB Reserve at Lochwinnoch.

They were looking for ways to improve our school grounds whilst increasing biodiversity and after completing the RSPB school bird watch survey last year, the pupils realised that it was quite tricky to identify what they had spotted.

At Lochwinnoch, a bird screen allowed the children to get really close to the birds and they successfully identified eight different species. Since last year’s survey, the committee has installed bird feeders in the infant playground and they are looking forward to finding out if this has had an impact.

The pupils observed the way that logs had been used to create a habitat for mini-beasts and hope to incorporate some of these in our school grounds.

They all enjoyed exploring the play area which used natural materials to create a unique and adventurous space which encouraged children to get involved with nature.
